I was inspired to start this blog, as the geek-girl I am, by a comic. Captain America, to be precise. In fact, it was while I was watching the recent movie, there was a like that struck me, more than anything. "You've been asleep Cap, for almost 70 years." It made me wonder where we as a nation have been sleeping since then.

We have given up our sense of pride. This has been replaced by self-loathing on one extreme, and arrogant chest-thumping on the other. We have been losing our sense of community and cooperation, when few of us know our neighbors or desire to meet them. We are losing our sense of shared ownership, the thing that drove people to plant victory gardens, led ladies to give up stockings for the war effort, and that drives people to make sure the widow up the street has a nice meal every now and then.
It is very trendy to complain about the things we do wrong, and yes, we should be responsible for our actions. However, there is a lot that we have done that is inspiring, not just on a global scale, but locally. There are small and grand efforts by our friends and neighbors that make people hope, dream, and act. With the bickering, complaining. infighting and political theater, we need a reminder of who we are as people, not parties. So here I will focus on what we do right. without the politics, without hubris. I am not seeking to have a "better than" attitude, simply saying that sometimes we can be pretty damn great, and it's okay to be patriotic. No party, no lifestyle holds the rights to patriotism. It belongs to all of us.
With this said, enjoy. Play nice, and know I will not allow political bickering or grandstanding in the comments. There are plenty of other places to do that.
